Property is a complicated field and people tend to only specialise in one area. This means that there are many different types of property agent, as each will have their own expertise. There are three main types of agent you will come across on a regular basis:
- Letting agents. These are the people who look after rental properties. They market them and find suitable tenants, then when the tenants have moved in, they maintain the properties on behalf of the landlords.
- Estate agents. Usually in charge of property sales, though perhaps also rental properties, estate agents are skilled in selling. They will know plenty about the property market and can asses how much a house is worth.
- Building management agents. A management agent will look after a communal property such as a block of flats. They act on behalf of the landlord who owns the freehold to the land and property.
