Why Doesn’t My Home Look Like Those On Film?

We have all watched films throughout our lifetimes. With most of us as children getting the thought of our future homes looking like those in the movies. But when reality kicks in, it can be hard to comprehend why our home is simply not the same, so why is this?

Simply, homes on film are not the same as homes in reality. Our homes are being lived in and loved. They are used for day-to-day life so are not going to look the same. They are going to get messy and run down.

As for decorating our homes, we can get them to look similar to those on film. Use them as inspiration and make them work within your home. If you have a UK home, do remember s lot of films are made in the USA so their homes are naturally larger and more open plan than ours.

Bringing Christmas Into Your Home

It is finally here, the month of December, which can only mean one thing, Christmas is around the corner. Today, we are going to share with you some interior design ideas to help bring the festive spirit into your home. 

We all know the basics of putting up a Christmas tree, but what colour decorations are most people heading for this year. We have found that people are leaning more towards classic trees this year. Focusing upon the reds, golds, whites and silvers. If you like to follow trends then these are your best options. 

But what other ways can you bring festiveness to your home? One which we like to use is adding tartan. We find that tartan is much more festive. Especially red tartan, bringing Christmas cheer and warmth. So bring out the tartan cushions and blankets for the added festivity.

Finally, consider using candles or reed diffusers. These can come in a range of Christmas scents. Allowing you to add a lovely Christmas smell all-around your home.

Looking After Your Paint Brush

Quality paint brushes improve with use so it is important to look after them well. Take time to clean brushes thoroughly after use – for water-based paint warm, soapy water is best, and oil-based paint requires a purpose-made solvent remover. Work the correct liquid through the bristles until all the paint has been worked loose, then spin the brush to remove as much of the liquid as possible. Spinning can be done by hand, or by using a professional brush spinner. The next step is to comb the bristles with a paint brush comb, or a dog comb works too, then lay the brush flat to dry. Treat the bristles with fabric conditioner or hair conditioner to prolong the life of the brush further. Once it is completely dry, put the brush back into its original packaging to keep the correct shape – some professional even place their brushes in a vapour box to keep them in tip top condition.
